Custom poly bags are made to order, so the price depends on exactly what you ask for. A complete request can be priced in one reply; an incomplete one turns into several rounds of questions. This checklist covers everything a manufacturer needs.
1. Choose the bag type
Start with how the bag will be used: a plain or printed bag, a courier flyer, a garbage bag, a heavy-duty industrial bag, or film such as stretch roll or shrink wrap. Each has its own details to specify.
2. Measure the size
- Width: across the opening, measured with the bag flat.
- Length: from the opening to the bottom seal. For a bag with a flap, give the flap length separately.
- Gusset: for bags with side or bottom gussets, give the gusset depth when opened out.
- Allow for depth: a thick product takes up width and length. As a rule of thumb, add the product's depth to both its width and its length, plus a little extra so it slides in easily.
Sizes can be given in inches or centimeters; just say which.
3. Choose a thickness
Thickness is usually given in micron. If your current supplier uses gauge or mil, convert it with our thickness converter. The right thickness depends on the weight and edges of the product and how the bag is handled; if you're unsure, describe the product and let the manufacturer recommend one.
4. Choose the material
Most poly bags are LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE or a blend. LDPE is soft and clear, LLDPE adds strength and puncture resistance, and HDPE is stiff and strong at low thickness. See LDPE vs HDPE vs LLDPE for a full comparison.
5. Decide on color and print
- Film color: clear, natural, white or a color. See colored and transparent bags.
- Print: the number of print colors, and whether you need printing on one side or both.
- Artwork: send your logo or design, ideally as a vector file (AI, EPS or PDF). See custom printed bags.
6. Give the quantity
State the number of bags, or the weight in kilograms if you already buy by weight. If you order regularly, mention how often; it helps with production planning.
7. Send your request
